VERY VERY IMPORTANT

Nala, my beautiful little girl who you all know and love, has suddenly been stricken with SEVERE KIDNEY FAILURE.

The once active, curious cat is now complacent, exhausted, and refuses to eat or drink - even her favorite wet food.

After a pricey visit to a Yorkville veterinary clinic, blood tests returned this morning indicating that Nala's creatinine levels are over 10x's higher than normal (normal is <85, Nala is around 1300). Essentially, this is enough to kill a cat - but she's hanging on.

Tomorrow I am taking Nala to a vet in the London area, where she will be placed on intravenous in an attempt to regulate her kidney function and return some normalcy to her life. Depending on how the intravenous therapy progresses, next steps will include a referral to a specialist in Guelph for further biopsy of her case, then possible dialysis or kidney transplant.

As Nala is quite young (just over one year old), and her creatinine levels are so high, unfortunately Subcutaneous therapy is not an option at this point. Currently Nala's diagnosis is not clear on whether she is sufferring from Chronic Renal Failure (CRF), a kidney blockage, kidney stone, or genetic malfunction. Further xrays and ultrasound will allow the vet to make a clear diagnosis and determine if Nala does indeed have a chance at life.
